Popis: | Molluscs are major pests of agriculture and horticulture, and have caused significant damage worldwide as a result of inadvertent introductions of exotic species. Monoclonal antibodies raised against slugs and slug eggs demonstrated a range of useful specificities for diagnostic and other purposes. Specificity was at a number of levels. General-purpose antibodies were raised that can detect molluscs and their eggs. A genus-specific antibody was selected that can identify arionid slugs, and a second that appears to react specifically with the eggs of Deroceras spp. Three species-specific monoclonal antibodies reacted with Deroceras reticulatum but not with the closely related D. caruanae, while a fourth reacted with the eggs of Arion ater but not with those of A. hortensis. |
