Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen is a diagnostic test often ordered when a patient presents with abdominal symptoms in attempt to localize pathology. It has the advantage of being fast and noninvasive. It is often performed in conjunction with contrast to gather additional information about a suspected pathology. That is why it is important to recognize the different types of contrasts and the different routes they can be administered through and tailor the exam accordingly. |
