Popis: Publisher Summary This chapter describes how to connect and start working with C-Kermit. The purpose of Kermit software is to let the user use two computers at once, such as the PC on one's desk and a large mainframe located elsewhere. Kermit program is in local mode if one is using it to establish a connection to another computer. Otherwise, it is in remote mode. There are two ways to use C-Kermit in local mode, depending on what kind of computer one has. The first method is used when one has a workstation on their desk from which they establish a connection to a remote computer. In the second scenario, one accesses a multiuser UNIX, VMS, OpenVMS, or AOS/VS timesharing system from a PC, Macintosh, workstation, or terminal on their desk, and they use C-Kermit on the multiuser computer to connect to a third computer. Local mode operation of C-Kermit has four phases: (1) setting the appropriate communication parameters, (2) making the connection, (3) using the connection, and (4) releasing the connection. C-Kermit tries to give reasonable defaults; if the connection to the other computer fits the defaults, one needs just a few SET commands and connecting is easy.
