A literature search is an integral part of the evaluation of a patient with a suspected adverse drug reaction and can provide information on clinical presentation and diagnosis, time course, dose relationship, reversibility, cross-reactivity, treatment and prognosis, mechanism and pathogenesis, and testing. Using a case example, we will demonstrate the components of a literature search, using a systematic approach to identify relevant information (Aoki et al. 2013). This summary is not meant to be an exhaustive review, but rather provides the practicing dermatologist with the necessary skills to conduct a literature search. |
