Popis: | The mixed non-aqueous systems dimethyl sulphoxide - sulphur dioxide and dimethyl formamide - sulphur dioxide react selectively with metal oxides, dissolving MgO, V 2 O 5 , CrO 3 , MnO 2 , CoO, CuO, Cu 2 0, ZnO, SnO 2 , PbO 2 , La 2 O, and Ag 2 O at ambient temperature, forming sulphur oxyanion compounds. Dimethyl formamide - sulphur dioxide also converts CuO and Cu 2 O directly to copper metal. Acetonitrile - sulphur dioxide dissolves CuO and Cu 2 O only. Such highly selective reactions, occurring at ambient temperatures, with little or no loss of solvent, offer a valuable technique for recycling metals from waste and converting them directly to industrially valuable materials. |
