Since the Second Vatican Council, interreligious dialogue has been variously understood and expressed. According to Pope Francis, interreligious dialogue is in first place a conversation about human life, characterized by an attitude of openness in truth and love, sharing others’ joys and sorrows. From this point of view, the dialogue with other faiths can be understood as a necessary condition for peace in the world, and to serve peace and justice is a basic principle of all religious exchanges. The author draws together this understanding of interreligious dialogue vis-a-vis the theological anthropology in the conciliar documents, with a special focus on Gaudium et Spes. |
