On 15 May 2014 the directive 2014/65/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on markets in financial instruments and amending Directive 2002/92/EC and Directive 2011/61/EU was passed. The directive entered into force on 2 July 2014 after 20 days of vacatio legis . Its period of transposition will elapse on 3 July 2016. The most important consequence of this act is the repeal of 2004 MiFID 1 directive (in force as of 3 January 2017). New “constitution” of EU financial markets law not only corresponds with main goals of MiFID 1 directive, but at the same time reflects new trends of EU financial markets law.
