Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the genus Trimorphomyce. In the determination of the asexual reproduction it is seen that in naturally occurring basidiocarps of Trimorphomyces papilionaceus conidia may develop before basidia or concurrently with them. Basidiospore germination yields a budding yeast stage. In the sexual reproduction it is found that small watery-gelatinous sporocarps develop on the hyphae and conidial masses of Arthrinium-like anamorphon coarse grasses, bamboos, and Sasa spp. The chapter also discusses physiology/biochemistry and phylogenetic placement of the genus. The type species taken is Trimorphomyces papilionaceus. In the systematic discussion of the species growth of yeast state on 5% malt extract agar, growth of yeast state on the surface of assimilation media (glucose), growth of yeast state as Dalmau plate culture on morphology agar, basidiocarps, gene sequence accession numbers, reference strain CBS 200.94, and origin of the strains studied are determined. |
