Popis: Accumulation of plutonium in the head extractor of the first cycle in NPP spent fuel reprocessing in the above-extreme and extreme extraction modes was studied on an installation comprising a set of mixer-settlers. The obtained plutonium accumulations in the extraction stages of the head extractor appeared to be lower than the values calculated from the mathematical model for the above-extreme mode. Lower accumulation of plutonium is due to faster movement of the uranium front along the extraction unit from the inlet stage to the raffinate outlet stage. The apparent efficiency of the stage at the uranium front edge appreciably decreases, which may be due to relatively slow attainment of the equilibrium in the settling zone at a sharp gradient of the uranium concentration at the front edge.
