In the current paper the ability of corrosion inhibitors to retard erosion corrosion in both purely erosive environments and environments with erosion corrosion are studied. The study uses measurements based on weight loss. The method of application of the inhibitor is studied by using a specified concentration of inhibitor in the experiment, filming the metal coupon or by using sand that has been exposed to a specified concentration of inhibitor. For the experiments that are done in a purely erosive environment, extrapolation of the laboratory results is done using an equation developed in previous work.1 The extrapolation indicates that using inhibitors in erosive environments can allow producers to safely transport more fluid or gas through an existing pipeline system. |
