Corrosion Studies of As Casted and Heat Treated Aluminium-7075 Composites

Popis: The corrosion behaviour of Al 7075 metal matrix composites(MMCs) reinforced with Sic and graphite as casted and heat treated were investigated in acid chloride, acid sulphate, acid nitrate and neutral chloride medium at room temperature for 24 hours by weight loss method for 7 days and the corrosion rate has been ascertained based on density calculated by the usage of rule of mixture formulae and graphs were plotted with the help of origin-8 software by plotting corrosion rate towards time in hours immersed and weight loss towards no of days immersed. The studies have revealed that the corrosion rate of Al 7075 Composites is lower in heat treated specimens compared to as casted specimens and it was also observed that the rate of corrosion is lower in neutral chloride medium when compared to other acid mediums in both the as casted and heat treated Al-7075 metal matrix composites.
