Synthesis of 6-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dimethyllumazine by rearrangement of the corresponding 6-methyllumazine 5-oxide

Popis:	Starting with a chloronitrouracil, the synthesis of 1, 3, 6-trimethyllumazine has been achieved. Oxidation to the 5-oxide and subsequent rearrangement gave 6-hydroxymethyl-1, 3-dimethyllumazine. Because of the method of synthesis, the product is uncontaminated with the 7-isomer.
