Popis: Chitin is the most copious nitrogenous biopolymer polysaccharide found in the world following cellulose. It has remarkable biocompatibility, nontoxicity, nonimmunogenicity, good biodegradability, antimicrobial efficacy, and strong wound-healing aptitude, leading to its receiving an immense deal of interest in the medical, pharmaceutical, agricultural, and industrial fields. Massive studies and research work have revealed the strong potential of using chitin and its modified types in the area of medical sciences such as wound management, tissue engineering, drug delivery systems, and periodontal and orthopedic applications. In this chapter, we comprehensively discuss the various aspects of the physical, chemical, and biological nature of chitin along with its use in multiple fields such as biomedical, industrial, and agriculture.
