The main purpose of the study was to prove stated preference data for the updating of the travel demand models for the Helsinki metropolitan area. The second goal of the research was to estimate value of time and other trade-offs related to the preferences of the people living in the area. The study showed that carefully designed and tailored mail-back questionnaires can be used as a source of data. Nevertheless, the combined use of revealed and stated preference information turned out to be quite difficult since it is nearly impossible to define the variables of stated preference exercise in the same way as the variables used in mode choice models based on actual choices. Therefore more attention should be paid to the quality of data gathered in mobility surveys. |
