The design, construction, and field performance evaluation of an improved moth-capture detection system for use with wire-mesh cone traps baited with insect pheromones is described. A two-stage infrared light blockage detector, an air-pressure capture assist mechanism, and a one-way insect gating valve were incorporated into the improved system to enhance its performance. Field test results indicated that the accuracy of the improved system for correctly detecting trap captures of insects was increased by two-fold over that of unimproved systems. |
