Popis: | Leukodystrophies are a heterogeneous group of white matter degenerative disease characterized by variable clinical presentation. A specific neurophysiological profile of the different leukodystrophies has not yet been established. We investigated EEG and multimodal-EPs in various leukodystrophies, to determinate their possible role as an aid in differential and early diagnosis. 49-children were studied. From the current data, PEV (50%) and BAEPs (49%) appear among the most valuable tools, particularly in the first evaluation; EEG is extremely sensible (74%) but in long term disease; ENG is useful only in well known leukodystrophies; SEP was altered in 38% while MEP in 100% of pts (all with clear clinical pyramidal signs), ERG was altered only in 1 pt. In conclusion PEV and BAEPs appear useful in the early stages of disease, EEG in long term disease, while ENG only in selected cases. The other tools have ancillary role without clear utility. |
