Popis: Many animals rely on their chemical senses for the major life functions such as reproduction, feeding, and predator avoidance. Most terrestrial vertebrates have developed two olfactory chemosensory systems: the main olfactory system and the vomeronasal, or “accessory,” olfactory system. The main olfactory system is exposed to volatile odorant molecules brought to the sensory epithelium by the respiratory airstream.
