Luminescent manifestations of tunneling and ionic processes in alkali feldspars

Popis: With the aim of determining the reasons for fading in paleodosimeters based on alkali feldspars, we have carried out a broad experimental study of various luminescent characteristics of these materials over a broad temperature range (from nitrogen temperatures to 450°C), relaxation processes at elevated temperatures, and also the effect of different heat treatments on these characteristics. Based on new experimental data on tunneling luminescence, we have critically analyzed the possibility of explaining fading by tunneling processes. In order to consistently explain all the data obtained, including the observed fading, we need to draw on radiation-induced and thermally induced ionic processes. We have carried out a series of direct experiments to measure ionic conductivity in feldspars.
