A novel fluorodiimidediol has been synthesized utilizing diamine, anhydride, and existing solution imidization techniques. Two synthetic methodologies leading to heavily fluorinated epoxy networks are reported. One approach to convert it into diepoxy via dichlorohydrin in basic solution permits the opening of the imide rings and subsequently reacting with the epoxy rings to an amide, carboxylate-containing epoxy network. The other approach, to cure it with a fluorodiepoxide in the catalytic presence of tetramethylammonium bromide, results in an imidecontaining epoxy network with intact imide rings. |
