Copolymerization of conidine and β-propiolactone

Popis: A study was made of copolymerization of nitrogen- and oxygen-containing rings—conidine and β-propiolactone. Alternating copolymers of equimolecular composition were obtained. Dependences of the rate of copolymerization, yield and composition of copolymers on reaction conditions were examined. The copolymerization mechanism of conidine and β-propiolactone was investigated. It was shown that copolymerization takes place by the zwitterion mechanism, the formation of the β-betaine from conidine and β-propiolactone being the limiting stage in nonpolar solvents.
