Popis: Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev. cultivar ‘Surf’ (chrysanthemum) was grown in a greenhouse with supplementary light during short-day conditions (11 h). Five regimes were used for controlling the duration of the artificial lighting each day. The light source was 400-W high-pressure sodium lamps, and the levels of artificial irradiance were 35, 50 and 60 μmol m−2 s−1. The application of artificial light enhanced the number of flower buds and reduced the production time. Both irradiance and duration of the artificial lighting had significant effects on growth and development. Dry weights of vegetative parts and flowers were affected. Owing to seasonal variation, there was a pronounced difference in the number of flower buds and production time between the two experiments.
