Popis: | In a case of prostate hypertrophy which had given rise to bilateral hydronephrosis, a significant concentrating defect was found to be persisting several days after relief of the obstruction. The patient was hospitalized with a tentative diagnosis of diabetes insipidus. Ethacrynic acid was used for evaluation of the dysfunction of countercurrent mechanism. Reduced ability of the medulla to bind solutes is suggested as the source of deficient cocentration. Authors emphasize the clinical importance of the correlation between urinary obstruction and polyuric syndromes. |
