Catalytic activity and product distribution in the disproportionation of toluene on different preparations of pentasil zeolite catalysts

Popis: | The catalytic properties of pentasil-zeolites in the disproportionation of toluene at 640 – 730 K were investigated with respect to the influence of composition (Si : Al-ratio) and mode of synthesis (template) of the zeolite. The catalytic activity at near steady state (after initial partial deactivation) is roughly proportional to the Al-content, independent of the nature of the template used for zeolite synthesis. The ratio of benzene to xylenes in the products depends only on toluene-conversion, independent of composition or synthesis-mode of zeolite and of reaction temperature. The p-xylene content in the reaction products at higher conversions of toluene exceeds the value which would be expected for equilibrium between xylene-isomers only if the catalyst consists of relatively large zeolite crystals. |
