Popis: 1. 1. Using adult Sinclair (S-I) miniature gilts, plasma biochemical parameters were determined to ascertain whether intragastric infusion of ethanol, alone or in combination with fructose, glucose or sucrose, would result in increased plasma lactic acid and pyruvic acid concentrations. 2. 2. Plasma urea nitrogen, serum glucose, serum triglyceride, plasma ethanol, plasma pyruvic acid and plasma lactic acid concentrations, as well as plasma lactic acid/pyruvic acid ratios and packed cell volumes were determined. 3. 3. Plasma pyruvic acid concentration decreased by 20 % upon ethanol or sugar-ethanol infusion, while plasma lactic acid increased by 30 % one hour following fructose-ethanol infusion. 4. 4. Plasma lactic acid/pyruvic acid ratio increased by 80 % one hour following fructoseethanol infusion.
