Tongbai Reach is located in the Yangtze River estuary reach and is characterized by wide waters, numerous shoals, complex hydraulic environment and sediment transport, violent local shoal-channel changes and extremely unstable channel conditions in history. This paper summarizes the basic conditions of Tongbai Reach and control measures adopted in recent period, and analyzes in detail its changes in talweg, diversion ratio, deep water channel, sandbank and shoals after the regulation projects basing on the past research results and recent measured topographic and hydrological data. Results show that after the Tongbai Reach regulation projects, the river regime intends to be stable overall, and adjustment of diversion ratio of main branches accords with engineering expectation. In addition, key boundaries of Tongzhou Shoal, Langshan Shoal and Baimao Shoal are stabilized. The width and depth of deep-water channel have increased. The effects of regulation projects in controlling river regime, stabilizing and improving channel conditions and assuring embankment safety have brought the preliminary result. |
