Popis: Investigations on the acetylene auto-production of commercial lithium metal after heating up and subsequent addition of water brought values from 0·04 to 3 mg C/g Li. Thus, these contaminations will falsify the results of 14C-age determinations of organic samples with several 100 mg of carbon, if C2H2, C2H6 or C6H6 are used for the measurements. If, on the other hand, lithium which has been found free of carbon impurities, is used for the preparation of lithium carbide, errors in the radiocarbon determinations can be excluded.
