Popis: The mass spectra of several cyclooctatetraene-carbonyliron and -carbonyl-ruthenium complexes are described and compared. The most common fragmentation scheme is loss of the carbonyl groups, followed by loss of C 2 H 2 groups from the metal-hydrocarbon ion. The effect of the presence of a metal-metal bond on this breakdown pattern is described.
