Popis: | JCTCV:23(3) Objective: To describe the results of the first mission of open heart surgery in the country and to propose the prospects for its development in Mali. Patients and methods: this is a retrospective and descriptive study on the first open heart interventions during a partnership mission with Morocco to the Mali hospital from September 17 to 23, 2016. The studied parameters were the clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary data. Results: Six patients have been collected. The average age of patients was 22.5 years. A dyspnea on exertion of at least 2 on the NYHA scale was found in all cases. There were two cases of mitral disease, two cases of mitral stenosis, one case of mitral insufficiency, and one case of atrial septal defect (ASD). Four mitral valve replacements, one mitral valve repair and one ASD closure were performed. The average duration of hospitalization was 13 days. The evolution was simple in all cases. Conclusion: Open heart surgery is feasible in our current context . The South-South partnership through training and companionship missions is necessary. |
