Popis: James L. Scherrer, M SIV, is a recent graduate of the Jane Addams School of Social Work, University of Illinois at Chicago Circle. Although both lawyers and social workers claim to have a common goal —the welfare of the people they serve —much has been written on the diffi culties and conflicts that character ize the relationship between the two groups.1 Out of the wealth of profes sional material comes one plaintive cry: What can social work offer the legal profession? 2 This question, which neither lawyers nor social workers have been able to answer satisfactorily, forms the basis for this article. To answer it, the author will draw on his experience working with juveniles and their families acquired during his field placement with the Juvenile Law Proj ects, Northwestern University Legal Assistance Clinic.
