Parenting Styles Practice Degree in the Family Environment among Yarmouk University Students

Popis: The study investigated the practice degree of parenting styles in the family environment among Yarmouk University students. The sample of the study included (305) male and female students (133male, 172 female) from humanitarian sciences faculties (N=170) and scientific faculties (N=135). To achieve the objective of the study, a descriptive survey methodology was adopted as a (32) items questionnaire measuring parenting styles distributing on (4) domains was developed by the researchers and administrated to the sample. The results of the study showed that the practice level of parenting styles from Yarmouk University students was high on the total parenting styles questionnaire and the individual domains. The study indicated statistically significant differences (α =0.05) in the perceptions of Yarmouk University students related to parenting styles practice degree due to gender, in favor of females while no differences were found due to specialization and family income. In light of the results, the study recommended the need for parents to create a warm, encouraging and loving family environment. There is also a need for agreement between mothers and fathers about their roles in the parenting style adopted in the family and that each of them should work to complete the role of the other.
