Popis: | This article explores the human resources implications due to technological changes in libraries, particularly the proliferation of internet resources and electronic journals. Skills required by library personnel have increased with the proliferation of serial titles and formats. Use of multiple systems to perform routine functions requires greater understanding of the interrelatedness of library units and connectivity of technology. Shifts in workloads and workflow, requiring staff with different skill levels and backgrounds, have resulted in real-location of human resources in libraries. Training in several areas-aspects of librarianship, technology, and interpersonal skills-must be ongoing. Human reactions to technological change will determine the success or failure of technology. Training and communication are the keys to managing change, alleviating anxiety in the workplace, and success. |
