Popis: | Presentation of Case A 47-year-old man was admitted to the hospital for liver transplantation because of severe hepatic failure. The patient was in a good general state of health until approximately six weeks earlier, when painless jaundice developed. Laboratory studies showed that the bilirubin was 150 μmol per liter (8.9 mg per 100 ml) and the serum aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT) 1147 U per liter. An abdominal ultrasonographic examination was reported to show no dilatation of the bile ducts and no evidence of an intra-hepatic mass; marked splenomegaly was present, without ascites.
