Popis: The effects of pericardial effusion on defibrillation threshold were investigated by numerical calculations of defibrillating current density distributions with finite element method solution of the Laplace equation. The calculations showed that pericardial effusion increases defibrillation threshold from 2.46 to 3.48 Joule (per 10 msec pulse), and decreases inter-electrode impedance from 78 to 41 /spl Omega/.
