Popis: This is a propitious time to summarize information on the genetic regulation of the subcellular localization and expression of glucuronidase as exciting experimental results have appeared in these areas within the past 3 years. This review includes recent studies on the genetics and molecular mechanisms of glucuronidase subcellular localization, induction of glucuronidase by hormones, a new glucuronidase with unusual catalytic activity and inherited glucuronidase deficiency states. In particular we have stressed experimental results which have appeared since the comprehensive review by Paigen (1989) on the genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology of mammalian glucuronidase. Subcellular aspects of the regulation of mammalian glucuronidase including formation of the complex of glucuronidase and the accessory protein egasyn and the mechanism by which the complex is retained within the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are emphasized.
