Popis: Dumfries and Galloway is a massive region covering 90 miles in a straight line. It is also a very rural area with some areas less densely populated than others. Patient numbers in Dumfries are such that we can provide both lowand moderate-intensity exercise classes depending on patient ability. However, if a patient lives out in Stranraer and has been asked to travel 70 miles to attend these classes, this is difficult, and becomes especially so if he or she is unable to drive post event. To ensure that all of the region is adequately covered, we run five community classes strategically placed so that patients don’t have to travel such unreasonable distances. Patient numbers do differ greatly around the region from those in Dumfries, however, mainly as a result of the rural nature of the rest of the county. Time constraints, patient numbers and finances prevent us from being able to offer two different intensities of exercise classes in each community setting as we do in Dumfries. Therefore, our service runs mixed-ability classes to ensure that all patients in the area can get the benefit of cardiac rehabilitation.
