Popis: | Multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) provides a noninvasive angiographic evaluation of coronary arteries; it is an effective alternative to invasive coronary angiography. It has been demonstrated that myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) with single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) or positron emission tomography (PET) can diagnose functionally significant coronary artery disease (CAD) and predict future major cardiac events. Improvements in software and hardware have enabled the integration of both imaging modalities into a hybrid system, which fuses acquisition of data sets. Integrating anatomical and functional imaging into a hybrid image has shown improvement in the evaluation and management of patients with CAD, offering superior information compared with a separated interpretation. However, hybrid cardiac imaging has also generated controversy regarding which patients should undergo such integrated examination for clinical effectiveness and minimization of costs and radiation dose. |
