Popis: | The functional group distribution has been estimated for the carbon tetrachloride soluble part of peat liquefaction products using i.r. spectroscopy. The calibration factors for some functional groups have been established using model compounds. G.p.c. with i.r. detection has been used to investigate how the composition varies with the size of the molecules in peat liquids. The g.p.c. system was calibrated for paraffinic, naphthenic and aromatic hydrocarbons and information on the composition was used to obtain molecular weight averages and simulated distillations. The method is likely to yield more accurate information on molecular weight than ordinary two dimensional g.p.c., Since the different retention characteristics of different types of compounds are, to some extent, compensated for, many types of oils can be directly compared. |
