Popis: The results are presented of an investigation of the distribution and excretion of the radioactive isotopes 137 Cs, 89;90 Sr, and of a mixture of β-emitters in six cows, following oral administration. It is shown that caesium and strontium are well absorbed from the intestines and that a considerable proportion of the absorbed part of the emitters is secreted in milk. The absorbed part of caesium is deposited almost exclusively in muscles, that of strontium in bones. The results of the experiments show the dangers of a wide use of radioactive fertilizers and of allowing cows to graze on pastures infected with radioactive fission products. The results obtained can be used to evaluate the maximum permissible concentration of radioactive caesium, strontium and the mixture of β-emitters in fodder for cows.
