An archaeological evaluation was carried out for HS2 in advance of enabling works and subsequent main works carried out as part of the enabling works programme between Long Itchington and River Leam, which is located across the Warwick and Stratford-Upon-Avon Districts of Warwickshire. A total of 244 trenches were excavated across the area, as well as two contingency areas at the south end of the area. Surviving archaeological features were identified at both the north and south ends of the area. At the north end the remains of two separate enclosure systems, with part of a probable Iron Age dated enclosure, and a later probable Romano-British dated enclosure were identified. At the south end features probably related to an Iron Age dated enclosure were identified. |
