Since its development several years ago, lymphoscintigraphy has not been widely used. Originally the method employed a radiogold colloid; however, the more recent use of radiotechnetium colloids has facilitated the development of a new diagnostic technique which visualises the subcutaneous drainage of lymph from any skin region. Using scintigrams, it is possible to illustrate the different, often a priori not easily predicted crossed directions of lymphatic drainage. Variations in the lymphatic system may be demonstrated in each individual patient. |
