Dioximes of iron(II) with amino- and cyanopyridines

Popis: 1. Nine complexes of iron(II) of the type [Fe(dioxime)2(X-Py)2] were synthesized where dioxime is the monoanion of dimethyl- and diphenylglyoxime, and X is a CN or NH2 group in the 3 and 4 positions of the pyridine. 2. A study of the IR and Mossbauer spectra showed that the complexes obtained have the trans configuration, and the pyridine derivatives are joined to the iron through the heterocyclic nitrogen atom. 3. Substituents in the γ position in the pyridine influence the gradient of the electric field in the region of the iron nucleus to a greater extent than substituents in the β position. 4. The NH2 and CN groups weaken the π-bond between the iron and the heterocyclic nitrogen, where as a change in the σ-bonds depends on the position of the substituent, and on the nature of the equatorial ligands.
