A Novel Design of I-Shaped Terahertz Broadband Low-Loss Filter Based on Graded Photonic Crystal

Popis: A86 design of I-shaped terahertz broadband low-loss filter based on graded photonic crystal is theoretically proposed in this paper. According to the temporal coupled-mode theory, the graded dielectric cylinders and the resonant cavity are introduced to form the filter. The resonant cavity consists of three dielectric cylinders which are filled with nonlinear crystal material called lithium niobate that is in the central of the filter. In order to achieve broadband low-loss filtering effect, terahertz waves could be well coupled by the interaction between the waveguides and the resonant cavity. Transmission properties are analyzed in detail by changing rod ratio and dielectric constant. It is found that the 3-dB bandwidth reaches 57GHz with the central frequency of 410GHz; the insertion loss in-band is less than 0.15dB and the transmission efficiency is up to 97.04%. The I-shaped symmetrical filter structure with graded photonic crystal is proved to be a useful channel for broadband low-loss filtering in terahertz communication.
