This chapter will examine modern Iranian political history, focusing on the main historical phases which contributed to the process of state-building and institutionalisation in the country. The Iranian Constitutional Revolution of 1906, the creation of the modern state under Reza Shah Pahlavi and the reign of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, together with the rise and fall of Mosaddegh’s government, the Iranian Revolution of 1979 and the rise of political Islamic under the leadership of Ayatollah Khomeini, will be reviewed. |
