Popis: This paper is a description of the current situation of Vocational Education in Brazil, to indicate directions and perspectives for teaching practice and research, under the Federal Network of Vocational, Scientific and Technological Education of Brazil. Issues discussed include the history of university education in Brazil, how students are selected for university training, the role of government regulation in encouraging university education, and problems with the educational system. Of special interest are programs related to international cooperation such as the Thousand Women Program and Science Without Borders.
