Popis: | Ameloblastoma is a common odontogenic tumor that, even being benign, has a locally infiltrative behavior. The proposed treatment is usually based on marginal or segmental resection. Although effective, such therapeutic modalities are associated with a morbidity that impacts on function and aesthetics. A 50-year-old male patient reported asymptomatic swelling in the anterior region of the mandible. Imaging examinations (panoramic radiography and computed tomography) revealed a well delimited radiolucent/hypodense unilocular area. After histopathological confirmation, obtained through an incisional biopsy, of the clinical diagnosis of unicystic ameloblastoma, the patient underwent block resection surgery, with a safety margin, extending from the region corresponding to the teeth 42 and 45. The rehabilitation of the resected area was recovered by removable partial prosthesis, due to the patient’s financial conditions. The 2-year follow-up shows a clinically and radiographically free area of recurrence signs. |
