The development of the wind power generation technology and the increasing penetration of the wind power to the power system make the wind power a considerable source to provide reactive power for voltage regulation of the power grid. A method to utilize the reactive power generation capability of wind farm to participate in the regional automatic voltage control is proposed in this paper. First, reactive power margin of the wind farm is evaluated by calculating reactive power consumption of the wind farm itself under various operating conditions and the reserving dynamic stability demand of the wind farm. And then an adaptive zone-division method is proposed to define the wind farms regulation range, which is based on the reactive power margin evaluation result, to coordinate the operation of the wind farms. The efficiency of proposed method is validated via a case study on a regional power system with high penetration of wind farms. |
