Popis: | Lichen planus (LP) is a mucocutaneous immune-mediated disease with unknown etiology. It has a higher prevalence among women, between the third and sixth decades of life. Oral lesions may or may not be associated with cutaneous and genital lesions. Although the role of genetic factors is still undetermined, reports of LP in more than 1 family member are not uncommon. However, LP occurring simultaneously in monozygotic twins is rare. Forty-two-year-old monozygotic twin women presented asymptomatic lesions on the oral mucosa, skin, and vulva. One of the twins had white plaques and white striae on the buccal mucosa bilaterally as well as on the tongue. The other sister had white striae on the buccal mucosa bilaterally and on the gingiva. A biopsy was performed, and the histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnostic of oral LP. No treatment was proposed considering the absence of symptoms, and the patients remain on follow-up. |
