Bullying is not a rare phenomenon and, therefore, remains a concern to educators and parents. In this chapter bullying is defined and different forms of bullying are identified. A social ecological framework is considered as a potential approach for examining bullying. This chapter introduces the overarching theme that bullying is best understood as a group process. There are several different bullying roles including the bully, assistants and reinforcers, outsiders, defenders, and victims. A brief overview of each of these roles is provided and attention is devoted to the potential of parents and teachers to influence bullying dynamics. |
