Popis: Several species of Sphaeroma burrow: Some can burrow into non- wood materials and into wood treated with copper-chrome-arsenic (CCA), creosote; combined CCA/creosote and other preservatives: hard, durable timbers are not immune to attack. These species are restricted to tropical and warm temperate waters, but tolerate a wide range of salinities. They are most active in the intertidal zone. There is no evidence that they ingest wood so conventional preservatives may not reach the digestive tract. Physical barriers or contact control agents may be more effective.
