Popis: | As clinicians, we struggle to keep up with and understand the influence of technology on our patients of all ages. This discussion focuses and elaborates on issues and clinical implications raised by Drs. Dauphin, Grayson, and Lepisto in their panel of presentations. The discussion challenges us to think along with Dr. Dauphin about the larger societal implications of the pervasiveness of technology in our youth's lives. Second, the discussion considers how patients' use of technology impacts the psychotherapeutic work, both facilitating and deepening that work, as exemplified by Drs. Grayson and Lepisto. I conclude that while there are pathological uses to which this technology can be put, for the most part it is no more inherently destructive to progressive healthy development than any other advance, nor is it necessarily an interference with clinical work. It all depends on how an individual in treatment or out of treatment chooses to use it. |
